On the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2025, the Manassas Park Police discovered a devastating scene: four members of a Nepali family—Santosh Pariyar, Anju Shrestha, and their two children—had died from gunshot wounds inside their rented apartment on Lanae Lane. A firearm was recovered, and the incident is currently under investigation as a suspected murder-suicide.
The tragedy has left the local community in mourning. One of the children was a student in the Manassas Park City Schools, which issued a letter offering grief counseling and support services to affected students and families.
The family had only recently moved to the United States from Nepal in pursuit of a better life. Friends and neighbors remember them as kind, loving, and gentle individuals. Their children were often seen playing happily in the neighborhood, their laughter leaving a lasting memory with those who knew them.
In this time of immense grief, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Virginia chapter has created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for funeral costs, legal proceedings, and other critical needs. The goal is to raise $50,000, and over $5,000 has already been collected.
Family members of Santosh and Anju, currently in Nepal, are in the process of securing U.S. visas to travel to the United States and carry out traditional funeral rites.
According to the GoFundMe page, all donations will go directly toward:
- Funeral and memorial costs for the entire family
- Legal and administrative procedures
- Travel and logistical arrangements for family members coming from Nepal
The campaign also honors the family's memory, describing them as peace-loving individuals who were deeply devoted to one another and their future. The loss has deeply impacted not only their immediate circle but also the broader Nepali and immigrant communities in Virginia.
In this dark hour, the community is uniting to support the grieving families and ensure a dignified farewell for those lost.
