Kami Rita Sherpa Sets Historic Record with 31st Everest Ascent

Kathmandu, Nepal – Famed Nepali mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has once again etched his name into history, reaching the summit of Mount Everest for the 31st time on May 27, 2025, the most ascents of the world’s highest peak by any individual.
The 55-year-old guided a team of Indian Army climbers via the southeast ridge route, backed by a team of 27 Sherpas. Having safely descended to lower camps, Rita has now extended his own world record, surpassing his closest rival, Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who has 29 Everest summits to date.
Since his first ascent in 1994, Kami Rita has climbed Everest almost every year, earning him the nickname “Everest Man.” Beyond Everest, he has conquered a total of 42 peaks above 8,000 meters, including K2, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Manaslu.
His extraordinary feat highlights the endurance, resilience, and deep-rooted legacy of Nepal’s Sherpa community in the world of high-altitude mountaineering.
