New United Airlines Rule Could Leave Travelers Stranded Starting June 3

If you’re flying with United Airlines this summer, be prepared for a major change. Starting June 3, 2025, United is enforcing a new check-in deadline that applies to all domestic passengers, whether or not you have checked baggage.
What’s changing?
All passengers must complete check-in at least 45 minutes before departure, up from the previous 30-minute window for those without bags. If you miss this cutoff, you may not be allowed to board—even if you're already at the airport.
The airline says the update improves on-time departures and reduces last-minute delays at boarding gates. The policy also brings United’s domestic procedures closer to its international check-in rules.
What travelers need to know:
- New deadline: Check-in must be completed no later than 45 minutes before takeoff.
- Applies to everyone: This rule includes passengers without checked bags.
- Recommendation: Arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before departure for domestic flights.
- Risk: Miss the check-in deadline, and you may lose your seat or be denied boarding.
With busy summer travel approaching, AMN-USA urges travelers to double-check their flight details and give themselves extra time when flying with United. Better to be early than stranded at the gate.
